ENERGY STAR® qualified GE® refrigerators are 20% more energy efficient than refrigerators that are not ENERGY STAR qualified and 40% more energy efficient than conventional refrigerators sold in 2001.
All of the ENERGY STAR® qualified GE® refrigerators sold in 2007 were designed to avoid the emissions of more than 944,000 metric tons of CO2 over the course of their lifetimes compared to an equal number of conventional refrigerators; this is equivalent to the CO2 emissions avoided in one year by removing more than 180,000 cars from U.S. roads.
A single ENERGY STAR® qualified GE® refrigerator is designed to avoid the emissions of more than 2200 lbs of CO2 over the course of its lifetime compared to a conventional refrigerator over the same 13-year period; this is equivalent to the CO2 absorbed in one year by 1/4 acre of trees in a southeastern U.S. forest.
The ENERGY STAR® Recycle My Old Fridge Campaign is a new, nationwide effort, brought to you by the U.S. Department of Energy and the government's ENERGY STAR® program. The campaign encourages every American who owns an old, inefficient refrigerator to save money, energy, and the environment by recycling old refrigerators and, when a replacement is needed, to buy a new ENERGY STAR® qualified refrigerator
In some areas, the purchase of an ENERGY STAR® qualified refrigerator may make consumers eligible for utility rebates. Check with your local utility company to see if you're eligible.
